SUNDAY
AFTERNOON DEC 8TH, JOHANNESBURG, SOUTH AFRICA WE HAD SUCH A WONDERFUL
TIME!! If you can picture me sitting in a 92 blue Mazda with 200 air
filled balloons with sticks on the end of them riding to the movies - with
my window open trying to catch the blue balloon which flew out the window
as I drove...There was NO room in that car for anything else but me! I had
to call my friend Margie to pick up my camera equipment, and gifts and
Esmeralda and the little boy who lives next store to he (he is 7 and still
is not in school and was going barefoot as he had no shoes to wear). And I
had NO room in the car! The guards at my gate walked out and saw what was
happening for all of the balloons....I said.....I am taking 200
children from townships and squatter camps to the movies and give them balloons, sweets, cookies and gifts...Such a BIG smile went from ear to ear
on his face as he said Ohoooooooooo and opened the gate. He told me that I
am the only one in the compound of 90 residents, who has " Black
African" visitors!
They say I am also the only one in the
compound that remembers them at Christmas with gifts and after I have
company for dinner I always make more then enough, and let them come and
eat soon as my quests are finished - we call the guards. Also "Black
Africans".
I pray someone is seeing JESUS in something I am
doing here. I AM TRYING TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE! JESUS never forgets anyone,
and he knows each one of us by name, as I explained to the 250+ - children
today. We had prayed all 200 would find transport.. welll about 250 came
to the 200 seater room. Many were sitting on the floor and in the isles.
The Rev Kathy Cumo, (in Dec 2000)had sent me an analogy between Santa
Claus (Father Christmas they call him here) and JESUS. Kathy went home to
be with Jesus the following month. But there is no real comparison in my
book, although I think good ole St Nicholas was probably a believer who
had a heart for God and giving.
When we have a Children's Christmas party
I love to share it, as there is so much publicity about Santa Claus, I
like to put JESUS back in CHRISTMAS, after all it's all about HIM right?
So - WHY IS JESUS BETTER THAN SANTA CLAUS??
Here is what we read to
the Kids, after all they went to see the movie SANTA CLAUS 2. I wanted
them to understand it is all about JESUS.. Santa lives at the North Pole
.. JESUS is everywhere and he lives in your Heart 24 hours of everyday.
Santa rides in a sleigh .. JESUS rides on the wind and walks on the water.
Santa comes but once a year .JESUS is an ever present help and Lo, He is
with YOU always.
Santa fills your stockings with goodies . JESUS supplies
all your needs and inspires inventors to create the goodies. Santa comes
down your chimney uninvited ...JESUS stands at your door and knocks, and
then enters your heart when invited. You have to wait in line to see
Santa JESUS is as close as the mention of His name. Santa lets you
sit on his lap ...
JESUS lets you rest in His arms. Santa doesn't know your name, all he can
say is "Hi little boy or girl, what's your name?" JESUS knew our
name before we were born.
Not only does He know our name, He knows our address too. He knows our
history and future and He even knows how many hairs are on our heads.
Santa has a belly like a bowl full of jelly. JESUS has a heart full of
love All Santa can offer is HO HO HO ...JESUS offers health, help and
hope. Santa says "You better not cry" ...JESUS says "Cast
all your cares on me for I care for you. "Santa's little helpers make
toys ...
JESUS makes new life, mends wounded hearts, repairs broken homes and
builds mansions. Santa may make you chuckle but ...JESUS gives you joy
that is your strength. While Santa puts gifts under your tree ...JESUS
became our gift and died on a tree.... The cross. We need to put Christ
back in Christmas, Jesus is still the reason for the
season. For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son,
that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting
life.
